How the Engagement Score and eNPS are calculated

The ten metrics, how answers become scores, and what the bands mean.

Who can use this: Owners, executives, and team managers.

The ten metrics#

Pulse questions cover ten areas, each split into sub-metrics:

Metric Sub-metrics
Relationship with manager Communication, Trust, Support
Relationship with peers Collaboration, Trust, Communication
Feedback Quality, Frequency, Suggestions
Recognition Frequency, Quality
Personal growth Autonomy, Mastery, Purpose
Ambassadorship Pride, Promotion
Satisfaction Fairness, Role, Workplace
Wellness Stress, Balance
Alignment Mission and values, Ethics
Happiness At work

From answers to scores#

  1. Each answer scores 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, or 10, from Strongly disagree to Strongly agree. Some questions are worded negatively, like "I often feel overwhelmed", so agreeing scores low.
  2. Pulsido looks at the last 90 days and keeps only each person's latest answer to each question.
  3. A sub-metric's score is the average of those answers. A metric's score is the average of its sub-metrics.
  4. The Engagement Score is the average of the ten metric scores.

Bands#

Score Band
9 to 10 Amazing
8 to 8.9 Great
7 to 7.9 Very good
6 to 6.9 Good
5 to 5.9 Low
3 to 4.9 Very low
Below 3 Critical

eNPS#

eNPS asks "How likely are you to recommend [your company] as a place to work?" from 0 to 10, using each person's latest answer in the last 90 days.

  • Promoters answer 9 or 10.
  • Passives answer 7 or 8.
  • Detractors answer 0 to 6.

eNPS = % promoters − % detractors, so it runs from −100 to 100.

Every score needs answers from at least 3 people. See How confidentiality works.
