How coins work
Coins to give, coins you've earned, and what they're worth.
Who can use this: Everyone.
Coins let people put a little weight behind a thank-you. Your company may call them something else, like beans or high-fives, and use a different icon. Everything here works the same.
Two balances#
| Coins to give | Coins you've earned | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Your allowance: what you can give away with kudos | What other people have given you |
| Where you see it | "… left to give" in the top bar, and on Home | Earned on Home, and Coins to spend on the Rewards page |
| Resets? | Yes, every period (often monthly). Unused coins don't roll over. | Never. Earned coins don't expire. |
| Can you spend it? | Only by giving it away | Yes, in the rewards store |
You can't give coins to yourself, and you can only spend earned coins.
What a coin is worth#
10 coins = 1 unit of your company's store currency. With US dollars, 10 coins is $1, so 250 coins is about $25. The Rewards page shows the value next to your balance.
Where earned coins come from#
- Kudos and add-on coins from teammates.
- Spot awards and approved challenge claims.
- Birthday and anniversary coins, and being the round MVP, if your company gives them.
- Finishing a pulse or survey, if your company rewards that.
- An admin adjustment, such as a prize.
Limits you might run into#
- Per-person limit. Your company can cap how many coins you give one person each period, so two people can't trade coins back and forth. If a kudos would go over it, the kudos still sends with only the coins left under the cap, and you keep the rest.
- Not receiving coins. Some people, such as contractors, may be set up not to receive coins. Kudos to them still send, and you keep the coins.
- Redemption minimum. You need a minimum number of earned coins (50 by default) before you can redeem anything.
